New Wedding Stamp Debut

On May 1st a new wedding stamp will make its debut. It is a 61 cent, 2 ounce stamp. According to the post office the stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland and photographed by Renee Comet of Washington, DC.

As you can see it is a white tiered wedding cake with a flower topper. Ok, maybe not the most original thing, but certainly very nice for those wedding invitations.

Your Wedding and the Economy

The number one question I was asked last year was “have you ever had a bridezilla?” This year the number one question is “well I guess business is down for you since the economy is so bad?” Well the answer is amazingly enough, no it’s not down, in fact I have even more weddings and even bigger budgets than I have in years past. It seems that couples are still willing to spend their money on their once in a lifetime event. I wondered if this was true with other wedding vendors in the area, so I asked around, and the answer was pretty much the same with everyone. Business is good.

This leads me to the point; don’t believe all the hype of the wedding magazine and newspapers that are telling you of huge savings out there for the bride and groom. Maybe they are out there in other areas of the country but not in Greenville. The same rules for saving money apply today as they have in the past years; first pick a “non Saturday” day to have your wedding if you’re looking for discounts. Pick a non wedding month, not April – June. There is money to be saved if you are willing to do a lot of DIY work. You can pick signature drinks rather than an open bar. But do not try to brow beat your vendors into giving you discounts because of the economy, it is not going to work. When working with vendors remember, “you catch more flies with honey”, be nice, do not get heavy handed or ugly, it is not going to get you anything, except a vendor that is unhappy with you and not nearly as willing to go the extra mile to make things perfect for your wedding. I have seen vendors do amazing things for brides and grooms that they liked. Also remember, the wedding community in this area is very close, make one vendor really mad, you can believe the others are going to know about it and be very leery of you.

Just a little word to the wise, be nice it will get you so much more in the long run.

Color My Wedding

I recently saw the cutest idea in the Spring 2009 edition of Inside Weddings. For the wedding of Kelly and Keith, they provided a canvas and several choices of paint colors. The guests were asked to pick a color and do a single brush stroke on the canvas. After the wedding they had their vows painted across the canvas and it now hangs in their living room. What a cool idea, especially great if either the bride or groom were an artist. Check it out!

Wedding Umbrella

This time of year, there is a good chance you may see rain showers on your wedding day. Actually, there is a chance this might happen any time of year, so what’s a bride to do? Why not be prepared with a beautiful umbrella. Totes has just come out with such a sweet umbrella, perfect for your wedding day.

Available in white or porcelain satin, the parasol has a crocheted lace edge and hook handle. Costing only $25.00 I think this is a great find.

You may even want to purchase one to use during your portrait shoot for some really cute pictures. I think I will buy one to have on hand for my brides to use.

Beautiful Bra Straps

Have a strapless or spaghetti strap dress you love, maybe a dress for the rehearsal dinner or a bridesmaid’s dress where you need a little extra support. Well trade in those ugly bra straps for something just perfect. Straptinis offer beautiful beaded bra straps that are designed to attach to a convertible bra. These are perfect to let show, no more worrying about an ugly strap ruining your favorite top. They are available in lots of different designs. Now your bra strap is not only beautiful but can actually add flair to your outfit. What a good idea.

Peacock and Hydrangea Table Decor For A Benefit

A few weeks ago Willrich Bridal and Special Events was contacted and asked to do the table décor for a benefit for Hidden Treasures Christian School for Special Needs Children. Now I am no florist. I normally hire florists to do this kind of work, but I decided to give it a shot and see what I could come up with. I had six tables to decorate. We decided to go with an elegant peacock, roses and hydrangea theme. The colors were the colors of the school, blue and gold. I don’t think it turned out to badly if I do say so myself. Yvette from Photography by Dennis and Yvette also attended the benefit and she took these pictures of the setup. I thought I would share them with you. By the way the benefit raised over $6,000.
